Top end noise.
Top end noise.I figured it's worth starting a new topic for this instead of ballooning my old one.
I've got top end noise. Way more noticeable at idle, doesn't seem to happen during acceleration. It's not fast and tappy enough to be the valves, and given the new pistons, rings, keepers, rods I don't THINK it's piston slap. But it does sound like can chain noise, maybe? I have set it by loosening bolt, turning to T Mark them tightening bolt. I can see the cam chain arm stud move back and forth while turning engine, and after locking the nut it doesn't move anymore. Here's a video: http://youtu.be/xfqBoyznAQQ
It's definitely my cam chain.
I've cleaned and played with the adjuster several times but tonight I realized how worn that black rubber "triangle" is. The spring won't push back because the metal nipple/dome thing gets stuck trying to slide up that triangle which now looks like an L shape. When I rotate the engine with the lock nut loosened, the arm does not move at all. Can you replace parts on a cam chain adjuster?
It is a unit and parts are not changeable.
Ya will need to get another Send a pic?. . .....lm
If I feel inside the tensioner hole, I can move my chain around quite a bit left to right. I can feel it grabbing the lower roller guide, although even that slides a little left and right.
I did purchase a new cam chain for this during my build, it's a 94 link. It was tight as hell to get on the top sprocket, but after cranking everything down is that movement normal?
Here's some pictures.
One is showing how loosely and awesomely the spring can contract, it's in fine shape. But roller wheel looks pretty dull and that triangular plastic is dipped really hard.
