Front Fork

Post by Macgyver5 » Tue Sep 11, 2007 8:44 pm

So I've recently bought a 1964 Honda Super Hawk and am preparing to do a resoration... As I was going over the bike I noticed that the chrome sliders on the front fork are rusted and on one rusted through I don't know the condition of the inside but I'm assuming that it's going to be bad... What I was wondering is whether or not any of the parts for the forks are available and how hard it it to find the fork bodies... Any advice is welcome and appreciated I'll be posting a pic of the bike and the damaged fork...

Thanks
Brandon

Mac, Welcome new guy. Good news, the chrome part you are refering to are only covers. They will slip off when you have removed the forks from the tree. Sometimes they stick a bit from corrosion.you might have to work on em. But you will see how they come off, perty simple. Steve(kustommusic) Greer

You could check evilbay and/or some of the parts suppliers. Ya dont normally see them sold seperatly from the forks.

Have you tried Ohio Cycle. He may have them . Removing the rusted ones can be difficult, unless you have the right tool. I spray PB Blaster on them several times over the course of a couple days, and use a strap wrench to remove them. Good luck, and let us know what you find.

I've called Forks by Frank they quoted me $245 for a set of two... which is alittle steep but better than the $800 that I saw in a thread on here elsewhere... I've looked at Ohio cycle... am I missing something or do you really have to sift through all of the parts for all of the bikes.... also I would think that alot of the 305 parts should interchange but I don't know which ones... would anyone know if theres a part # cross reference sheet / book out there... or on cd maybe...

Thanks
Brandon
