Charlie's Place Rectifier/Regulator Wiring

Post by Seadog » Fri Jan 23, 2015 7:09 pm

I've purchased a rectifier/regulator from Charlie's Place and hope that those of you that have done the same can give me some wiring advice.

There are 5 wires to the unit, 3 yellow, 1 red and 1 green. The directions state that red goes to battery pos., green to battery neg. That part is easy enough. However it states that 3 yellow wires on the unit connect to the 3 wires from stator and this is the part that I'm having a little trouble with. 2 of the 3 wires from the stator go to the old rectifier location, but the third, a pink wire, goes to the ignition switch. Can I simply access the pink wire in the wiring harness tap into it?

Also, should I mount the new unit using some sort of heat sink? If so, can those of you that have used it recommend one?

Thanks.

I have not used one like this on these bikes. Usually they have only 4 wires one for +, one for -, and 2 for the stator and you splice the yellow and pink together for one and the brown for the other.

The ones on his site look to be 4 wire.

I have used these on various bikes with single phase alternators.

Thanks, Kevin. That 3rd yellow wire has me stumped. I just don't know how or where to connect it to the pink stator wire. I guess it has to be at or before the switch. But what good would that do?

I will next week; they're not open on weekends. I've also sent an email earlier, but have not received a reply as yet.

You have a three-phase rectifier there, your bike requires a single phase type(two yellow wires).
