CB77 oil cooler
CB77 oil coolercan it be done has anyone done it ?I think it would be really beneficial ..doing a rebuild on mine and find it has seen a lot of heat ..piston crowns underside black ,even the tops of the rods have blackened oil on them ..if anyone has done this please let me know
not exactly free are they ..looks like they are mounted where the starter would normally go ..i like my starter. don't understand the comment about the stock oil pump ..surely it would still put out the same pressure and volume as before and that pressure should be constant in the whole system .a larger volume in the system can only be a good thing . Th cooler provides a longer run for the oil lines which, to an extent, restricts the flow of oil in the circuit so that, in turn, reduces the flow from the pump. Lower flow reduces the oil's ability to carry oil away from the hot parts. Over all one would hope that the cooler would have a positive effect - but it may not be much.....

I remember back in the early 1960s (Yes I am that old) when I owned my CB72/CB77 my mates on Honda's CB92 CB77 CB72s and me all used the then new Duckhams 20/50 oil, at the time Honda recommended Castrol for there road bikes as all there racing bikes at the time ran on Castrol well as we all know the oil used in the works racers was Castrol R not what one used on the road bikes, some would put a little Castrol R in the petrol to give that lovely smell of the racing bikes of the time ho the memorise what a great time the 60's was for bikes, music, young ladies, im wondering off the subject now.
At the time I was a member (one of the first) of the Birmingham UK Honda owners club and new members would come in and say that there Honda engine has locked up and we would say and you were running on Castrol and they were, Castrol took some time to catch up with these new Honda engines Duckhams was ok at the time I remember. Now when Honda introduced the world to high revving road bikes the oil companies were way behind with the oil spec for such a high revving motorcycle engine miss a gear on a CB72 and the recounter would go to 13000 no wonder they locked up then, all the road bikes and cars at that time were half that rev range slow old revving engines long stroke some even side valve. Well today the better motorcycle oil you can buy should be more than good for the old Honda's from the 60's so never skimp on engine oil and change it often oil is cheaper than a new engine.
well i think we probably could agree that more oil that is cooler is better than less oil that is hotter and thinner. if the oil cooler were properly designed and the lines big enough not to restrict flow then the pump should push exactly the same amount under the same pressure as it did before .This is the reason that coolers are designed with generous lines .
