Unscrew the tappet covers and squirt some motor oil around to wet down the cam lobes and the valve stems.

Do you know why it was parked? Might give you an idea of what else should be checked.[/quote]

It was parked because my Dad felt he was no longer physically able to safely handle the bike.

Another good suggestion and quite easy to do. Thanks.

I don't intend to ride this bike. I'm prepping to sell and these are the original narrow whitewalls which I'd like to keep mounted on the bike.
wow, the original nittos. Must be low miles. Those tires must be almost 50 years old.

Clutch

Post by dreamhog » Thu Nov 27, 2014 6:45 pm

It's also likely the clutch plates might be stuck together. Sometimes they can be worked free after the motor is started and warmed up. You might have to go into the left side case and free them but you might get lucky.

clutch plates

Post by eamartin » Sun Nov 30, 2014 6:58 am

Yes. I expect to have clutch plate issues and asked about this in another thread. Since I'm prepping the bike for sale, I really want everything to be functioning properly for any potential buyers.
