CL72 what is it?CL72 what is it?Great to find this site hoping to get some basic information on what bike I have.
Picked up what is titled as a 1967 305 but the SN on the title is CL72316811. Is CL72 the 250 model designation? I purchased the bike about 5 years ago and put it in garage without doing much more than a casual look at it. Planning to drag the bike out of the garage this weekend and pull the motor S/N so I can start restoration. Plan may change if it is not the original motor. Thanks for any advice or assitance stevej Thanks a lot guys, I wll be checking the frame S/N and motor in the next couple of days. Got to dig it out of it's corner.
Will post what I find on the S/N and some pictures, it's a project bike no doubt about it but it does have some potential. Odometer reads 17K but not sure it even works. Someone ripped off the knee pads and tank emblems, seems to have good compression although I never have attempted to fire it up. One of those spur of the moment nostalgia purchases, only into it for 200 bucks so no big deal if it’s not worth restoring Thanks again stevej Checked the S/N's
Motor - CL77E-1008215 Frame - CL72316811 I assume that someone transplanted a 305 into a 250 frame and the title is messed up. Tough to tell from the pictures but it appears to have stock handle bars and stock clutch lever. Seat cover is original with a couple of ripped spots. Front fender, fender bracket, fork boots are all very good outside of paint. To me it does not look like it has ever been laid over. Has a single arm front brake/hub and the shocks look different from stock unless they are unique to the 250 frame Still in the discovery phase and once again thanks for the help stevej
All the parts of this bike are for the Small Brake CL77. I don't see any 250 parts anywhere. As for your shocks they have the bottom chrome spring cover on the top and the painted top is missing.
My guess is that the original frame was damaged and the owner at that time bought a 1963 CL72 frame and replaced the damaged one. Very common back then.
