CB77 Front Fender Question

Post by craig2148 » Wed Oct 22, 2014 1:53 pm

Greetings,

I recently pulled off the fenders and side covers from my 1965 CB77 and had them stripped and repainted. While putting everything back on I noticed that the fender mounts on the front forks protrude a different amount on each fork slider. Based on what I've been able to discern from an exploded parts schematic the fender mounts to each fork by way of a set pin and a single flange bolt on each side with no washers or spacers. This leaves the front fender offset to the right (viewed from the saddle looking forward) by about 1/8 inch. Is this correct? Should there be a spacer on the right side mount to center the fender?

Thanks.

There are no spacers, but the bolts are different lengths and the left bolt also captures the brake stay. The brake stay is outside the fender bracket though, so does not serve as a spacer. I'd use a pry bar on it until it looks good centered on the tire.

p.s. If you're a purist, there were no "flange" bolts on these bikes, just hex with a washer and the parts fiche doesn't show a washer on the rhs. There is a special lock washer on the brake stay side though.
