CB 160 Gas Cock...

Post by Pfraser » Sun Sep 07, 2014 12:40 pm

My CB 160 gas cock leaks. It was tight when I took over the bike... became intermittent... now seems to drip consistently when the cock is off. The leak is through the valve assy... the tank gasket it tight. Can't see anything wrong with anything in the disassembled valve / cock assy. Everything appears pristine, the four hole rubber gasket seems new and undamaged, the washer spring looks fine, and the outer plate faultless. But it leaks.

Any experience or suggestions..?

thanks
peter

drain tank and disassemble . when reassembling O-rings/rubbers, coat with a light touch of silicone grease. really rub it in, then wipe. if the rubber is old/hard, some heat will help. you will be surprised how much this can help. works on carb stuff as well.
Good luck

Thanks Randy... Went to get some silicone grease, but could only find things like silicone gasket sealer. It didn't look like what you had in mind. Maybe you can post me an actual product name that you have used successfully. Then there would be no mistake. Thanks!

Do the petcock mounting screws have sealing washers under the heads? Gas will run down the threads(by-passing the shutoff valve) unless there is a washer under the head of the screw.
