Steering Stem Nut

Post by JSharpPhoto » Fri Jul 18, 2014 10:30 pm

I'm getting ready to drop my forks on my 67/68 CB77. I've removed the damper, but I'm going to have to order a socket large enough to remove the steering stem nut. I measured it with my old calipers, but they aren't digital, and couldn't get a precise reading, somewhere between. 33-35mm. Can someone confirm 100% which it is? Sockets this large aren't cheap, and I'd hate to buy the wrong one.

I just measured one for you. 34.85mm

I think I would go for a 36mm socket.

Can anyone with a 36mm socket confirm this?

My 1 3/8" fits perfect.

which manufacturer made your socket? the only ones i'm finding are either impact sockets, which wouldn't be the end of the world, or they are 3/4 drive.

Do most people just use vise grips to get that socket off?
