Speedometer Gearbox Dissasembly

Post by PhilD » Sun Jun 08, 2014 1:24 pm

Picture of dismantled speedo gear box which isn't shown in standard parts diagrams or manuals. May be useful for anyone delving inside for the first time. Good luck!

Thanks, very helpful for forum members having issue's with it.
What is the size of the oil seal ? What is written on it ?

Speedometer gearbox disassembly

Post by PhilD » Mon Jun 09, 2014 9:27 am

Hi as detailed on previous page seal is 34X48X6.5 which I can't find listed by UK bearing/seal suppliers though 34X48X7.0 is listed and would probably fit as there seems to be enough room to accommodate an extra 0.5mm. As the seal only has to retain grease and not be oil tight I have reused my carefully removed original..

Phil

Many thanks for that. I have been looking at turning an early Dream speedo drive into an early CB72 speedo drive by swapping out the gears. They have opposite rotations and a couple of other small differences so not directly interchangeable... :-(
