camshaft halves

Post by Waveblaster » Sat May 03, 2014 11:08 am

Hello

I have acquired a bundle of camshafts but they are mostly disassembled. They include ca77,cb72,cl72 ( at least ) components so a mixture of 360 and 180 degree motors. Is there an easy way to differentiate 360 and 180 cam halves?

cheers

Greg

Greg

CB72/77 has tacho drive on left hand end.

CA72/77 sprocket has longer bob-weights

CA72/77 when assembled will have corresponding cam lobes (left-right) at 180 degrees

CB / CL when assembled will have corresponding cam lobes (left-right) at 90 or 270 degrees

Thanks for the response Graham

The bob weights are they the arms on the mechanical advance?

the tacho drive side makes a good point of reference. I will have to lay everything out on the bench and match items up and use the verniers for cam lob size I guess . Assuming dream and CB will be different? Different grind perhaps.

Was concerned that halves could be inserted in more than one orientation.

regards

Greg

Yes the weights are the spring loaded arms. The dream ones extend further than the CB and CL ones. The dream lobes will be different with less lift if I remember correctly. I think CB and CL lobes are pretty similar. Each half has a missing spline which lines up with the sprocket so they can only be fitted in one orientation.

I think I read somewhere that the CB & CL cam timing and profile are identical.
