Sorry to read that the top end is toasted, but as you know it can be rebuilt after a meticulous and methodical cleaning. However you should determine why your motor lost its oil distribution. Keep us posted. Allan Update: I found a layer of steel wool shavings stuck to the bottom of the oil pump, coating the screen. It peeled off like dust on a dryer vent.
Before I knew better, I used steel wool to clean the engine cases when they were apart. I learned this was a really bad idea half way through, and thought I blew it all out and rinsed it out, but apparently not. I have finished flushing everything and the engine is back together with NOS cam and tappets. Hoping to get it started this weekend. Bike is all finished.
Had horrible time with carbs, as has been the case since I got the bike. Bolted on PE22 carbs this weekend, and zoom! Idles and runs great. Wondering if PE22 would be a possible option on my 305, which also has very cranky carbs. Here it is running https://flic.kr/p/nrLnZm
