Need help identifying Piston Sets

Post by psimning » Sat Mar 15, 2014 3:09 pm

I am liquidating a large collection of vintage motorcycle parts and bikes for a relative. I need a little help identifying two piston sets.

The first set has a part number C72 1361A S3. These are OEM in the red Honda Motor Co., LTD boxes. Two boxes and two pistons, no rings or pins. The pistons are new in the boxes wrapped in plastic and have four ring slots, three above the pin and one below the pin. I have been told that this set is for a dry sump engine, very early 60's or late 50's. One box is unopened. Ideas? Value? They are for sale.

The second set of pistons are a Hap Jones Piston Kit CB 72 S12. Contains piston rings, pistons, pins and two lock rings. Original packaging (red box). Ideas? Value? They are for sale.

I have thousands of new and used parts as well as about 30 bikes in various states of repair and disrepair. They are all CA/CB/CL models with 72/77 power trains, with a few other Jap and Brit bikes in the mix. Thanks.

C72 4-ring pistons are for the early 250 Dream which was sold from 1960 onwards. This is a wet sump engine. Size 3 means 3rd oversize. Value is what you can get for them. They were superseded by 3 ring pistons. They would be worth more if you had the 4-ring sets. I have rings for the S1 4-ring pistons.

Hap Jones S12 piston sets go for about $100 on eBay. Still plenty about.

G,

Thanks! Your advice is greatly appreciated. My older brother passed away 5 years ago and my sister in law is only now willing to sell off his collection. I recently sold an S90, CL72, two Ariels, a Norton Commando, CB350 and am working on a GL1000, Triumph Trident, an two 750 H2s. I have my own bikes but they are all modern machines. I am not really into the older stuff (my brother was 12 years older). I have a good friend who is familiar with a lot of these bikes and he has helped me out a lot. I am expecting that I will be at this for a number of years. It is actually somewhat fun to work out in his shop, things are fairly well organized. Lots and lots of parts! I live a good day's drive from her and I get over to her place about three times a year.
