Cam chain tensioners

Hey Folks,
I`m in the middle of the engine restoration of a `66 Scrambler and I have some questions regarding the cam chain tensioners. I have three different pieces of cam chain guides (the one that is on the top of the crankcase) but all of them are hard like stone. One looks pretty new though. I don`t know if this originally has to be soft or hard, to me it seems like the same material that the newer Honda`s tensioner rails are made of. In comparison to the tensioner of the primer chain, what is made of obviously different kind of soft rubber, this guide is really hard. I was wondering buying a new one on ebay, but these are old stock items, and if mine is just hard because it`s 50 years old, I guess the new one is similarly hard, and I don`t want to trash 80 bucks.... Or originally it was hard like this? Any ideas?

I think they are neoprene and they were/are hard.
Must be round with smooth sides both sides of the raised middle rib.
Damage is when they look like a
sprocket and the center rib is warn away. ...........lm

Good NOS rollers are soft and I only use soft rollers in my rebuilds. Hard rollers go in the thrash can. That's my opinion.

Well it isn't my opinion. ............lm

Good NOS rollers are soft and I only use soft rollers in my rebuilds. Hard rollers go in the thrash can. That's my opinion.
