Buying question for ca77

Post by Bogamire » Fri Jan 24, 2014 2:41 pm

I just posted this in another section but now realize this might be the better place to post so sorry for the double post.

I'm mostly familiar with the smaller twins like the 160's and 175 but I was told about a 65 305 dream, late model, for sale locally for cheap $.
I was told that it was taken apart a few years ago for a resto so now it lives in boxes.
So my question is, besides the usual stuff to look for, what are the impossible to find/super expensive parts that I should be inspecting or hoping are included when I take a look this weekend?

Expensive parts

I'd look for the Carb Covers (Clam Shell), Fuel Petcock, Exhaust Headers, Mufflers, Ignition Switch, Working Speedometer, Working Headlight and Chain Covers.

Great info, thanks guys.
Question, is anyone making aftermarket petcocks for these (like Pingel)? Also, is there any function to the carb cover or is it just aesthetic?

No function on the carb covers but if you want them $100 + on ebay.
There is a guy on hear that sells a replacement petcock on ebay I have one on my bike it works but not correct for the looks of the bike. PM me if you want his ebay store.

Anything that is chrome and rusty - expensive to rechrome and almost impossible to find used in good shape.
