Camshaft castellated nut query
Camshaft castellated nut queryIn am stripping the cylinder head on my CL72 which has stood for some years and has some corrosion inside, I am now trying to remove the camshaft, is there any way of knowing if it is left-hand or right-hand thread (CW/CCW), I am using a hammer and drift so would prefer to be going in the correct direction.
This is a picture of it, sorry it is blurred but I think you will get an idea of the type. The engine number is CL72E 1101164 if that helps. 1977 CB400F

Re: Camshaft castellated nut queryIt's left hand thread.

Hi,
Tim, I think you're right regarding the old dream style heavy cam sprockets. And I have seen this type used on CB 72 61/62 engines too, including the "wrong" thread. Jensen btw, these heavy sprockets are just nice for smooth riding, but I wonder if it's good for the life expectancy of the cam chain. assembly of Japanese motorcycles requires great peace of mind (Pirsig)
I have 3 of the late style right hand thread.
I gave the engine numbers they came from to Bill Silver. ........lm
