Tyres for CB77

I am looking to fit new tyres to my CB77. It has some Chinese tyres at the moment and the wrong 3.00x18 on the front which does not steer well.

I have seen Continental Contigo tyres advertised which have a modern looking tread pattern. Anyone used these who could give some advice please?

Since they are available in 2.75x18 and 3.00x18 I tried to get those Contigo tires for my CB77 here in the states but they don't import them. I tried to get a dealer in the UK to sell me a pair but no one was interested. Maybe someone in Europe will be able to give you an opinion.

I don't know anything about those particular tires, but the best all-round tires that I found (they have the classic look + great performance) are Dunlop K82's. Wheelhouse Tyres in Birmingham UK carries them, as well as that website you list above. They run about 110 GBP per pair. They were rated as a 'Best Buy' by Classic Bike Magazine a few years ago.

Thanks for the good advice. I see the Dunlop K82s are available. Is the front a ribbed tyre? Looking at the picture it seems more like a rear tyre.

I also see some Pirellis on the site in the correct size. They are called City Demon and look quite good. As I want to ride the bike a lot, the steering and grip are important rather than authenticity.

The front tire has the same tread pattern as the rear -- from what I can recall, you simply reverse the direction of rotation when mounting the tire on the front.

As far as grip and steering go, the K82's are utterly confidence-inspiring, in both the dry and wet. So I definitely wouldn't worry about that as far as those tires are concerned.

As far as the tread life goes, I think on my last pair of K82's I got about 7,000 miles on the rear. Can't remember what I got on the front.

The City Demons look good too -- they have a good load and speed rating, though it's interesting that they call the 2.75 a rear tire and the 3.00 a front tire (at least according to Pirelli's website). If you go with those, just make sure you can mount the 2.75 on the front and the 3.00 on the rear. BTW you can mount a 3.25 on the rear without any trouble (I've been running that size for several years now -- it fills in the fender a bit better, at least to my eye), but I'd probably stick with a 2.75 for the front.

Another tire to look at is Heidenau -- they are good value for the money, and they seem to be pretty good, grip-wise. I currently have a pair on my SuperHawk (2.75 on the front , 3.25 on the back), and they work well. However, I haven't had the opportunity to experience them in the wet, so I can't speak to their performance in those conditions.

I have used K82s for a number of years on my bikes and completely agree with Vince. They grip well and offer very precise steering and handling.

The 7000 miles on the rear tyre is what I used to get from AVON SPEEDMASTER Tyres I used. 7000 miles from the back, 21000 miles from the front, sort of average over 100000 miles of use in the first 9 years I owned my CB77. Only 140000 nowadays.
