What a concept - A Girl Bringing Back Her 1966 Super Hawk
Malcolm, I'm going to order that tomorrow. Thanks for that link!
I spent an hour fighting with the exhaust system. Yes, the engine mount bolts are all loose. I read and re-read Jensey's dissertation on installing the exhaust system. I'm going to fall back and regroup. Maybe I'll just start it for the first time with the headers on it only. Yes - it's that bad! 1965 CB77 305 Super Hawk

Here she is as of this morning. The exhaust is NOT attached yet. I'm getting ahead of myself!

Oh, Graham, I've been there - as in "not making progress"! I'd LOVE to go Australia sometime!! Enjoy the trip!
Today - I put the clutch cover on the engine, installed the plug caps on the plug wires, indexed the kick start gears and installed the primary drive cover, and then kicked the engine over - several times. It spun over beautifully, with no odd noises or catches or anything untoward. The kick starter returns to it's proper position, it ratchets just fine. I need to service the battery and put it on the battery charger. I still have to finish going over the handlebar and it's switches, and then I can install it. I do need to purchase grips for the handlebar. I did spend a lot of time going through hardware, and I discovered that I don't have the bolts that go through the bottom mounts of the mufflers, nor do I have any of the bolts to hold front fender on, except for the one bolt that attaches the torque rod to the fork leg. So, I'm digging around for those items. The Old Girl is looking pretty terrific. When she started to come together, she just sort of snowballed! I am mere hours from starting that engine....

LM reminded me that I've routed the plug wire improperly and that the cable guides on the carbs are backwards. DOH!!! Well, that's an easy one. This certainly isn't the first time I've assembled something wrong on the Old Girl. I'm glad I'm here, I'd of had a mess on my hands, otherwise!
Here's how they were oriented when I took the bike apart - I did not do that, someone had messed them up for me (like a lot of things on the Old Girl).

1989 NT650 Hawk GT 1981 Yamaha XJ550 Seca Dear Sarah, It is all very impressive what you are doing. I have really been enjoying the progress and the manner that you have logged the whole process on the forum. There are a lot who cant do what you are doing. It is all a credit to you and the people who have given you guidance and a bit of help. All the best Jerry
