CL77 Handlebar questionCL77 Handlebar questionI bought a 1967 CL77 that I am "restoring". It runs well and really just needs some love and maintenance. At any rate it came with handlebars that have no cross bar. I've got to assume someone along the way put dream or super hawk bars on it. My question is I see a nice set of handlebars that look like CL77 bars but they have holes that it looks like they threaded the electrical through them. Were these holes stock at any time or did a pst owner just drill the holes themselves? If so should I assume this will make the bars weaker?
CL160s use a cross-braced handlebar, similar to the CL77. The 160 bars are drilled to put the wires inside. The welded in cross-bar on the 160 handlebars is smaller in diameter than the one on the CL77, otherwise they look about the same.

Ok. Got the bars and here's what I found. They are going to replace a rusty, bent set of what I think are original cl77 bars. They are a little wider than the originals but seem to be a little lighter. Which probably means thinner steel. They are about 3/4 of an inch wider on each side at the mounting base and an inch wider each side at the handles. I'll try them for fit before I cut anything off the ends. The grooves in the mounting area fits exactly the mounting hold down bracket. The cross bar is very close to the same height. The chrome is very good. IMO these would be a good, inexpensive replacement for stock scrambler bars.....but would probably fold up like a bat wing if you have a get-off. But if that happens bent bars would be the least of your problems. Rock on. I just bought these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121295901768?ss ... 1439.l2649 They are pretty nice for a replacement but they are a little wide, as he states, and they do NOT have the holes drilled in for wiring. I can drill the holes myself though. I did notice that he opened the package and took the labels off the bars and cut it off the plastic. These are just a current reproduction but I have no idea what company makes them or the model number. I wish he would not have cut that info off but then again he is probably buying them for $25.00 and reselling them for $44. Not that I would start doing the same, I would just like to save a few bucks for my next set which I need. (who wouldn't?)
