Here's a closeup view. That vertical silver 'pin' is the plunger you use to prime or 'tickle' the carb. You need to do each carb separately. I'd be interested to know if anyone else tries these carbs!

One thing I forgot to mention: My 305's engine has been rebuilt (0.25 o/s), the head has been ported and polished, and I'm using those EMGO Dunstall mufflers. I haven't done anything like oversized valves or a high-lift cam, and the air filters are stock, but I just thought to let everyone know that those elements are added to the mix. Oh, and I'm also using the electronic ignition. At least we know that 'out of the box' these Amals put you in the general ballpark of where you need to be. Hope all this helps someone out there!

Some follow-up questions:

a) Price of Amal carb set ? Just parts, not labor.

b) Is that sealant between the carb and spacer? What kind?

c) What are those neat hose clamps; from petcock to carb ?

a) The price for the pair is about $ 450.00.

b) I'm not sure what the sealant is -- might be Yamabond.

c) The 'clamps' are just speed wire (I think that's what it's called). I think I've seen it used in racing applications on bolts that you don't want to come undone (like on brake calipers).

I took the bike on a 150 mile ride today (Saturday June 16). The bike didn't miss a beat. Opened the petcock, tickled the carbs, fired it up. Hit the magic 'ton' today too!

One other thing I forgot to mention about the operation of the carbs: If you ride somewhere and stop for lunch, when you go to start the bike you need to tickle the carbs again with those plungers.
