1966 Honda CA77 not getting power

Post by daywalker » Sat Jun 15, 2013 5:50 pm

I'm thankful that my bike runs seemingly well. I just noticed that the engine is not getting enough power. It barely outdoes my old 1965 Honda S65 63cc bike which is disappointing. Anyone have any info?

Kind of hard to answer a question like "My bike doesn't run good what should I do?"

There is a long list of possibilities -

- Points
-Timing
-Valve adjust
-Carb adjustment
-Low compression on one or both cylinders

Just for a start -

Where would you like to start??

Except I told you that the engine is not getting enough power to it. That's the most I can say about it. Valves were set, cam chain was checked and carb was set. Idle is erratic as well. I'm not good at fixing these bikes yet so I was hoping to get pointers.

daywalker you have 47 messages recorded but no actual location like city and state.
You were just given pointers and the real question may be how are the important items SET/ADJUSTED.
It's your bike and you are there. ..............lm

Well, I can add my location if you'd like. It is my bike and yes I am here, I just have no idea how to fix it. I am looking to in get an answer to what the important items are to be set/adjusted. I had my step dad do the work on my bike so I'm just assuming they're SET/ADJUSTED correctly. I didn't think I was asking anything too stupid for this forum. If I did, I will gladly see myself out. If not, I would greatly appreciate any help from those kind hearted and willing seasoned mechanics. I suppose you might see me as an alien but I assure you "I come in peace" ;)

Above are the items mentioned previously.
I am Kind Hearted to those who do more than ask for the invisible answer.
Ya may want to start to diagnose all the listed items and go from there.
BTW someone may be close enough to you to come and help.
That will be up to you. .........................lm

Okay lets start with simple stuff -

What color are the plugs?

Is the battery showing at least 12.3 volts?

Is the carb opening all the way? - throttle cable adjustment

Are the points gaped at .014"?

Is the timing correct. - Link for setting timing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oKh1TJ1nJs

Is the carb float level set at 1.043?
