1965 CL72

Post by sixtiescycle » Sun Mar 03, 2013 10:03 pm

I had to dig out this bike and start getting it ready to move. Big plans for it 14 yrs ago but now I have second thoughts and two other projects that I'd like to spend time on. In it's 14yr stay I robbed the topend to put on a CB72. Built another engine, 2mm over only to rob it for another '65 CL72. Now the original CL72 engine is back in the bike this time as a 337cc. Cosmetically it will be complete but unrestored. Compared to my '61 CB72 startup this one fired right up! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_VtR__jRpw

This week I went through exhaust pipes, it now has a fair set with a slip on muffler. Saturday I picked up fuel line and a battery so I could run and tune it. A little trouble with the right side, after cleaning corroded connections at the coil it seems to be running on both cylinders consistently. This is the second CL72 I have with a 337cc kit. I'm running the 22mm carbs on both. With #125 main jets these carbs work great.

Progress ongoing, dug out a decent front wheel, cleaned and mounted a new tire. Rear shocks now have the top covers. Skid plate on after repairing a broken bolt. It's beginning to look like a scrambler again!

It's pretty much done, a few loose ends to do. Rode it today, seems to run out okay. It's off to the swapmeet on Thursday. It will make someone a good project as it's nearly complete and little to chase down partswise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTycVviNPVM

Dick

That's a super quick transformation. A really nice looking bike. Thanks for sharing.

It finally left today to a new home! Now it's on to the the latest project, the '65 SuperHawk I purchased a month ago.
