RECTIFIRE PROBLEM

i have a 66 superhawk and when i hook the red wire with whote stripe to positive the lights dim and the rectifire starts to smoke.is the rectifire bad or i dont have a good ground or what?

Check all wire connections. ..........lm

it helps when youput in a new battery you put it in right!!!! duuuuh. my bad

Note - because of reverse polarity you may have "cooked" the diodes in the rectifier. Meaning you now nave a paper weight.

The stock rectifier on a 1966 doesn't have Diodes. .......lm

You are right no diodes - Not used to working with "old school" stuff.
