Need help getting a title

Post by myowncasualty » Fri Mar 22, 2013 1:23 pm

I live in Boise Id and have a had a a 61 ca77 dream that I had bought about two years ago without a title. I don't have any way of getting a hold of the previous owner and don't know how to precede with getting a new title for it.

What are my options? I have been keeping an eye out for a titled frame on ebay, but have not found one yet.

Here in California, you'd fill out a 'Statement of Facts' form explaining how you bought the m/c and from whom, have the VIN verified by the CHP and once that was done, apply for a duplicate title. Not a big deal and very easy, just takes a little time is all.

I'm sure Idaho has something similiar and that forum member "Mike in Idaho" can tell you what exactly needs to be done. No need to buy another frame that has a title unless the frame you have is damaged.

Good luck,
Tinman

Here in Idaho, you go to the DMV and request a "ten year title", aka a "branded title" for a vehicle over ten years old. The State Vehicle Inspector for your area will look over the #s from the bike and any paperwork you might have, then start a search for the last registered owner. A few weeks later you go back and, if the last owner hasn't been found, he will do a vin inspection on the machine, fill out the forms and issue a new title. You need to pay sales tax on the current value and title fees. The title will be marked" branded title", the last owner can show up for three years from the date of issue and claim it. After three years it reverts to the status of a regular title and it's yours to keep. If you want to sell it or trade within the three year period, you need to jump thru some more hoops and generate a bonded title. I never worried about a former owner showing up(highly unlikely after all those years), if he did I would present him with My bill for "repairs and storage", equal to what I spent on the machine.

Please add your bike to the Honda305 Dream Registry and I can verify your model year ...and check whether the frame/motor combo is OE. There are a lot of bikes that are a different model year than originally recorded.

Your bike is most likely a 1966 Model Year, possibly a very late 1965. It is definitely not a 1961.

The good news is that the Frame and Motor were paired at the factory.

Thank you for adding the bike to the Honda Dream Registry !
