Broken Spoke- replace without removing wheel?Broken Spoke- replace without removing wheel?Found a broken spoke on my front wheel. Two questions. First, is it dangerous to ride the bike with a broken spoke? I've probably been riding it with a broken one for a while now anyways, but just wondering. Two, can you replace a spoke without removing the wheel and tire? Anyone have a favored place of buying a single spoke?
Thanks. Not terribly dangerous if all other spokes are tightened properly.
You could replace without removing the wheel but you don't want to. Twice as hard as removing it. Depending exactly which spoke it may require removing a few other spokes to do it. I have a set of spokes I just removed - 1965 Dream - some are in reasonable shape. Send me a couple of bucks for postage and I'll send you a couple. You should remove the tire and tube so that you can dress any extra spoke which protrudes through the nipple. Otherwise it may puncture your tube and that is not a nice thing to happen..... G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

Akpasta, What model bike. I have spokes for a CL77, don't know if they are the same for other models. The spokes are in very good shape, but I replaced them with new ones from Buchanons and these are just sitting here. Spokes and nipples. Nipples have been polished and are almost all brass now. PM me and let me know. JMO..you might want to remove the tire and tube to replace the spoke for piece of mind when you tighten it up, might protude past the nipple and be a problem with puncturing the tube.
