CB/CL front fork tubes

Is there an explanation of the different sizes of fork tubes for CB/CL 72 & 77.
A friend has one fork leg which has a steel slider section with no fender stay bosses against the spindle, the tube is 35mm, is this for a CL?

Thanks G-Man, are the CB forks 33mm and the CL 35mm?, he has what he believed to be CB forks that are 33mm.
