Back at it, want to install voltage regulator from 1970s CB

Post by hillhudson » Sat Feb 16, 2013 5:47 pm

Hey all, I've fried two lithium ion batteries cause they are so sensitive to over voltage charging, the cb77 never had a voltage regulator because it used the led acid battery to regulate I assume, so anyone know where I should start when trying to wire in a newer cb 12v regulator ?

Thanks

Hill

Black wire goes to switched daytime running voltage, green to ground and yellow goes to the a/c(lighting coil) pink wire.

Hiil

You could go the minimalist route and fit one of these.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lucas-12v-Zen ... 7675.l2557

Just regulates the battery voltage by chopping anything above a nominal 12v (prob 13.6 ish)

If you use a Lucas zener diode, it won't work for you unless it's negative ground. The one in the ebay ad appears to be positive ground, since the heat sink is off a '68-'70 Triumph. Get the one for the late T140(750ccs), it's negative ground.
