1964 Honda C78 stator question1964 Honda C78 stator questionHi all,
I'm new here, I'm Ronald van Vlierberghe and I'm from Holland. I have a 1964 C78 and with a 4 wire stator (Denso HDW3800) My stator have's 4 wires: Yellow, Pink, Brown and green (also lightgreen/red for neutral) The 4th (green) wire came out of the stator and is cut, on that place are also two M3 tap holes. (if you look good you can see them under the green wire on photo 2) The green wire goes to the coil on the frame and is there cut too.. Is there anyone who can tell me what the function is of the extra green wire and what's missing on the outside of the stator I do not find any wiring diagram with the extra green wire on.. I hope someone can help.. Thanks in advance! Regards, Ronald PS: I hope it is clear enough because my English is not perfect..
Re: 1964 Honda C78 stator questionWelcome.
Your message is very understandable. Have you removed the stater and looked at the inside?. ......lm
RE: 1964 Honda C78 stator questionHi,
No not yet.. Next week I'm going to clean the stator, test the dynamo and look at all wires, all wires must be renewed.. When I deassemble the stator I can see the wires, where they go to and put on new ones.. It is strange that I don't find any info of the extra green wire... The wire looks the same as the green wire going from the condensor to the points and coil. I think it is a original wire.. I was thinking.. could it be for an extra condensor that feed's the ignition for starting without or with empty battery? This system I also have on my 1964 AJS Works ISDT.. But that I'm not for sure.. Regards, Ronald
Re: RE: 1964 Honda C78 stator questionIf it is stock then I think you have the only one issued that way.
The bikes as we get them today have had many things added and just because we find them doesn't make them original. It's seems that those new to these bikes and who find something like you have want to think they have "That Special One Of A Kind Bike". .................lm
Re: 1964 Hnda C78 stator questionHi,
I don't thinks I have a special bike or bike with special parts.. My bike is in a original unrestored condition without any other parts that put on in past several years.. My instruction manual tells me that there was a system to charge the battery riding in daylight with the hi/lo light switch on neutral.. Also of this system I don't find any other info or diagrams.. But that green wire is in a wiring loom together with the black wire going to the + of the coil . Both wires are in a oilsleeve like Honda used in that day's and looks also original! I'm going to make some pictures of these parts and loom and post them.. Regards, Ronald
Re: 1964 Hnda C78 stator questionThe higher rate of charge used the 3 origional wires and the headlight switch at the headlight bucket.
If the high/low switch is able to be stopped at center you actually light both fillaments. (switch was later changed in design so this wasn't able to be used) You won't find a wireing diagram for that wire as it's not original. Until you turn on the HL the switch on the bars isn't supplied voltage. (high and low) I have a drawer full of HONDA wire trimmings and can add then at any time. Isn't that wire cut at the stator? .........lm
Re: 1964 Honda C78 stator questionHere some extra pics about the green wire, dynamo and coil
Detail picture from the coil will come..coil is now at my fathers workshop for testing.. The wire is cut on both sides, dynamo side and also coil side.. That's the strange part of it, why it is cut and why is it there?? It lookes factory original and that strange too.. I have several diagrams but without any dates.. It would be nice to have a 1964/1965 C78 wiring diagram I will test the positions of the light switch and look what switch I have.. Regards, Ronald
