Yikes!

Post by RRIXX » Mon Dec 03, 2012 4:54 pm

While removing my carb off my Dream 305, one of the nuts fell down and onto the motor. While trying to reach it, it disappeared into a little hole I didn't even know existed. I can get another nut, that should be no problem but I'm concerned the lost nut may cause damage in it's new resting place. It is the right cover over the clutch and chain and removing it looks to be like a lot of work I would rather avoid. My question is this. Will that nut cause any problems in there or should I just abandon it hoping it will fall out? The picture shows where the little hole is. The hole is just below the rubber grommet. I know it is not a sealed unit so hopefully it won't be an issue.

If you are worried about it remove the cover.
If not worried then don't remove the cover.
Who's to know what the chain may do if it jams at the front of the sprocket???????????????. .....lm

Its not that bad to remove that cover and I would......... It sucks but I would....

A nut in the chain at any speed could be bad for the bike and you.

That will give you a chance to look things over inside that cover watch out for the ball for the clutch mechanism. Good time to clean things look at the gear and clean up things
If this is the first time that you have removed that cover look at past post for the reinstall of the kick starter simple when you know what to do and look for.

Now Why is that hole in that place anyway?
Maybe to drain leaking gas?

You're probably right. I'll have to do some reading on the removal of the kick start. I have the arm off but haven't attempted to remove the shaft yet. Time to read up on it. It's a winter project so I am in no hurry.

BTW, I'm not sure why that hole is there. At first I thought the cover was cracked and broken but it appears to be perfectly round. Maybe water would collect there without it.

It's a drain hole.
If you removed the kick lever from the joint (removed the clip, pin, large coil spring, small spring and ball) you will have a good time getting it back together. ........lm

Yes put the kick lever back on before removing the side cover after reading you will see that the lever can stay on and the side cover is removed with it on.
As LM has pointed out if you remove the side cover now its no fun getting the kick lever back in place.
Funny how them drain holes eat NUTS!
not going to add to that at this point........
