Help With 1963 Honda Dream!

Post by se7enGt0147 » Mon Nov 26, 2012 2:23 am

Hello I am new to this forum and is desperately seeking for advice from fellow Dream owners. Thought this forum would be the best place to help me find answer. I bought a really beat up dream about 2 months ago for 100 bucks. A father and son project. My dad having previously worked on the honda benly CA95 and other bikes, ripped the Dream apart, gave it a new paint job, and engine clean up. We put the bike together, started it and we found out that only the right side of the engine runs. Smoke comes out from both of the exhaust pipe, but...Only the right pipe is hot, while the left pipe is cold. Same goes for the exhaust header. When the bike starts, only the right side gets hot and the left remains cool. We tried everything we could think of, the timing is right, we even tested the coil...Right now my dad is thinking the problem has to do with the left valves and the clearance. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Please advice.

s7G,
Try pulling the left plug and ground it to the head while cranking the motor and see if you have spark. If no spark, change the plug and crank again for spark. Still, if no spark, trim back the spark plug wires a 1/4" at the plug cap and repeat the process. You can do the same to the right side and check to see if the plugs are good or not as you know that you have spark on that side.

You may either have a bad plug or the connection from the wire to the plug cap is corroded and not making a good contact.

Be sure to pull both plugs before you start troubleshooting and cranking.

I have tried switching the wires to see if the coil is the problem but only works on the right side of the engine when tried with both wires. When tested to see if there are sparks, the sparks are great on both plugs, yet only the right side of the engine runs.

Did you check the compression on both sides?
