CL77 Spokes

Post by Rickytic » Sun Nov 25, 2012 10:48 pm

Looking for a new sets of spokes for both front/rear CL77. Can get them custom made from Buchannons, but the cost is up there. Does anyone know if any other brand of motorcycle or year Honda spokes are interchangeable with the CL77 that might still be available?

small or large hubs

Are you looking for mall hub spokes or large hub spokes? I have some 65 small hub spokes left over from a restoratin if they will help.

Thanks Fred, looking for large hub spokes. The bike is a 66. I have all my spokes and they are in great shape. When I took the rim apart, the spokes were dirty so I polished them out. That took all the zinc off of them and am afraid if I put them back together without putting a new zinc coating, they will eventually rust. Thought I would put stainless steel spokes with stinless nipples, that way, I would never have a problem with rust etc. I can get them custom made from a place just up north called Buchannons, but thought that if there was other bikes that are newer and used the same spokes, I would try that. Normal spoke sets sell for about $39 to $69, Buchannons wants about $126 for each set.

Thanks for the response and offer.

Replate

Post by FAST FRED » Mon Nov 26, 2012 10:27 pm

I had some spokes re-zinc plated with clear zinc for one of my bikes. You can have a whole bucket of parts rezinced for less than you think. The spokes looked as good as new. I also had the nipples replated with nickel and they came out great.

Or you can read the plating thread under Everything Else and plate them yourself. That's what I did with mine. Just need to bake them at 350F for half an hour after plating.

Rob

Thanks for the replys. I have decided to go with new spokes from Buchannons and not mess with the other options, bought those 2 weeks ago.

When I get through relacing my wheels, I will have a set of front and rear spokes for a CL77 that are in great shape, no rust, just need a good cleaning and maybe recoated with zinc, depending on how fussy you are.
