empty carb float

Post by brainblood » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:42 pm

i've got a 1967 305 dream...it last ran two years ago...i replaced the battery and it would not start...plugs have spark so started taking apart the fuel line...tore everything piece by piece and finally removed the float bowl which was empty...there is fuel going into the carb but stops there...
what do you all recommend?

The only thing between the inlet and the bowl is the needle valve and they do get stuck. It should fall out when you remove the float. If it is, you can remove the brass seat (I think its a 10mm hex) that it fits into and clean everything up. If it is stuck, I would also clean the entire carb, because the jets are probably plugged with whatever stuck the needle valve. It's not that hard, and there's plenty of help with questions here. Reuse all of the brass after cleaning (unless there's obvious damage) and just use the new sealing washers, o-rings, bowl gasket, inlet needle and float pin from a Keyster kit.
