1966 Honda Dream 305 Oil Pump Cover or Oil Pump - Wanted

Post by cspecken » Mon Oct 29, 2012 11:57 am

After replacing the clutch discs on my 1966 Honda dream noticed a small leak coming from the drain plug. I decided to tighten the plug a bit more, when I heard a pop! So this was the outcome....

I have found several on eBay, but noticed that they do not look the same as the one I currently have. I am not sure if there is a difference or not. On mine I have a hollow tube going the width of the pump cover.

Thanks in advance

The pump body you have was specifically designed for the CL72/CL77, but will work universally on the 250/305 motors. That hollow tube is for the lower engine bolt on the Scramblers. Part number is 15110-273-000. The part number for the body that doesn't have the tube is 15110-259-000. If you find one without the tube you'll be fine.

Oil Pump body

There are 305 oil pumps on ebay, but it is a real gamble as to what you are getting. I bought a couple and they were junk.

I would strongly recommend you check with LM to get one that he has gone through. No worries then.

Let me clarify "you'll be fine" means any 250/305 pump will fit your engine 1961 on up.

Buying any used oil pump for any engine is a crapshoot.

I am not sure who LM is. Can you provide more details?

Thank you

Is it possible to just use the cover only, I am pretty confident that my pump is in good working order?

Thank you

Oil Pump body

Your "cover" that is broken and the oil pump body are all one piece. Hoosier Tom is right. Any 305 pump will work for your CA77, but you need to make sure that the pump is good. That means the body cannot have any grooves in it where the pump gears try to make pressure inside the body.

LM is LOUDMOUSE. If you send him a PM there should be a search function to "find a member". He gets a little grouchy sometimes but, we all love him because no one knows more about 305's than him. And, he has lots of parts that he will sell, including good oil pumps.
