FINALLY..my '65 cl77 winter project starts..

Post by junk726 » Sun Oct 28, 2012 3:16 pm

well..as some may know..i bought a 1965 cl77 last year in minnesota and had my brother in wisconsin pick it up and store it for me..thru MANY setbacks we finally got it here to sacramento..so here we go..i will be tearing it down soon..and i will post pics on the build (as soon as i can figure out best way on here as not to annoy anyone)...had it running last year..took it up and down the country roads a few times..(loud as hell..but a nice growl)..then it blew a fuse under seat and stopped all together..sat thru a cold winter in my brother's garage..and now it's here in mine..cant get any spark tho still...probably gonna just tear down, clean up, and re assemble...not going for show quality..(and not paying ridiculous cash for a front fender..just make a good rider)...tackle the wiring..and leaky fuel petcock...
still undecided if i will sell it when done and look for a complete '67 and pay big..or just keep this one when done..we shall see!

thanks to all who i met last year and the helpful advice! looking forward to making progress on her..and i will apologize ahead of time for MANY dumb questions i will most assuredly have in the future! Already have most of the good manuals..but may run into stuff you guys will roll your eyes at im sure! thanks all! here we go!
pics coming asap..

im pretty sure i need a stock rear fender and different tail light...looks as though it was cut short..and that tail light towers into sky! but i could be wrong! feel free to nail me on what is "period correct" or "needed" or wrong..i can take it guys! i know u guys don't hold back ripping on bikes..so have at it! bear in mind i'm NOT going for complete restoration ala "every dam bolt oem and period correct"..just want a solid rider..seats in good shape..BUT fear having ANYONE touch it and wreck it! it feels heavy..maybe waterlogged..? has a few holes in it and seems VERY fragile at cracks and tears..not sure best approach on that..
thanks guys!!

1965 CL77

You have the steel front end with the small brakes and the rear fender has definitely been cut off or bobbed as they say. Tail lite looks to be the small type while the 1967 have the large oval type. I've had decent luck using the halogen bulbs for longivity from vibration. JMHO

front tire is a Dunlop K70 3.25-19, and yah..i have the early model cl77 (small brake) and steel lowers..i guess..if anybody has a heads up on correct tail light or sprocket differences on my model..lemme know! i have been looking at that classic honda restoration place..they have most stuff i need..(rear fender i will have to hope none of you guys need one so i don't have to TRY and outbid anyone..i have been unsuccesful on a few things there!) my chainguard seems original..although someone tried to weld it up at rear mount..and it looks horrific! classic honda sells one for $150 i think..tore it down to frame last night! project is WELL underway! thanks guys!!
