re:baby powderJust as an addendum: Baby powders use either talc or cornstarch. Get the one with talc. Cornstarch is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture. Talc does not, and I personally think its a better lubricant.

Tire lube is key to just about any tire installation, not to mention removal. I think a lot of folks skip the lube step either because they don't have the proper lube or just don't think it is imporant. With lube, I can usually install a 2.50 tire with my hands.
Same goes for seating. I've had friends put on tires dry that would not run true, mostly bigger tires for heavy cruisers. I'd tell them just what was said here, let the air out, lube it and try again. Not to argue, but I'm not nuts about any oil on or near my tires. I don't even like soapy water because if it leaves a residue, you could have it return if you ride on wet roads or in the rain. Maybe I'm just over cautious but I tend to err on the side of caution with my bikes. You can buy real tire lube in places like NAPA. A gallon will probably last you a lifetime. regards, Rob
Considering the number of times I need to remove or refit a tyre, buying a gallon of professional lube isn't viable for me. But I always have some 3M Cable Pulling Lube kicking around. Only needs a smear, it's air-drying, non toxic and water soluble.
