I was wrong about the year, I was confused with someone else his problem.
New caps, new wires, new plugs, clean points, new wiring, new battery, coils from a running bike and a condenser from the same bike
new caps, what resistance ? same caps, same resistance ?
length of the wires are the same ?
clean points is new points ?

Did you hear the "running bike" in the same rpm range running flawless ?

How do you know it's a ignition issue ? Make sure you know were to look.

How do you know the spark is intermittent ? Did you check it with a good timing
light ? Is it always the same side ? timing is stable ? (again timing light).

How about the resistance of the coils ? Did you measure the resistance from engine to frame ? Did you measure the resistance between frame and battery (-) ? Are these resistances 0 ohm ? What is the voltage from the rectifier when the bike runs ? (measured over the battery) ?

Sorry Ford Guy, I forgot to add that I tried the baffles with no luck.

Ok, I cleaned the points after talking to Ed and telling him about the arking between the points. Ran much better. But after about 3 miles it starts to run like shit again. I tried loosening the gas cap to see if it was that but it didn't help. The only things that seems to help is to clean the points and plugs again and then I get another mile or so before it starts missing again.

I am curious if I am using the wrong fuel. I have a friend with a ca160 and when he took his baffles out, his bike ran badly until he switch to regular 87 fuel. He had been running 93 before. I have yet to try this as I've let the bike sit for a few weeks now.

What kind of voltage level do you have, at the coil positive terminal, with the engine running?

56,

Sounds fat to me. If your running stock 26mm carbs and you still have those 160 main jets in ? Try some 135's or 140's with some new plugs.

I'll ck the voltage level and report back Mike. The jets are stock and the plugs look great, coffee and cream.
