G80? I ride in the Motogiros every year with Dave Roper. I suspect you might have heard his name before. He's the only American to ever win and IoM event. Won in 1984 on a G80.

Sorry for taking this on a tangent. But I think we answered the question.

regards,
Rob

Rob

I wish! And yes I have heard of Dave Roper. Watched him a couple of times at Mallory Park which less than an hour from my house. I still cannot work out what happened with Rob Ianucci and Team Obsolete. They seemed to be everywhere and now they don't seem to be anywhere.

My Matchless is a G3 - 350, ride-to-work bike. Because the factory were so desperate in the late 60s they built the 350s with the same bottom-end as the G80CS, Norton gear-type oil pump, steel flywheels, hot cams and all.

It's a bullet-proof bike with hardly any mechanical noise at all. The valve clearances are set to zero thou so no clatter from the top end. Apart from a de-coke the bike has never been apart and doesn't leak oil.

And this is me before I could reach the foot pegs, circa 1966.

She's a beauty. G-man. Now that I see the picture, I remember you posting it sometime in the past, my drooling over it that time, too.

I'll bet that the 350 is a ball to ride, not to mention a lot easier to start than had it been a G80.

regards,
Rob

I have to correct a previous post just for the sake of accuracy. Dave Roper won the IoMTT on a G50, not a G80. Sorry for the error.

Rob

Rob

As a Matchless man for a long time - I knew that - lovely bike. Might get to see some at the Stafford show later today.

My restored CB400F was centre stage at the very first of these shows in 1994.
