First wet day here in San Francisco, and although I've kept my bike in the rain during work before, this time I had a bit of a rough start. First thing I could think of would be to make a little gasket for my points cover, as that's the only place I can see something getting wet easily.
How do you guys handle the rain with your old superhawks? Do some of you say bring it on and others, no way? What problems have you had?
Your Superhawk and the RainI'm pretty sure that moisture is is playing a role in a chronic and intermittent starting problem I'm having with my CL77. It's been driving me nuts, but I have not had the time to dedicate to solving it because the bike will run fine once warmed up.
I would look at places moisture can affect the ability to make spark. - coil connections - HT and 12v - plug caps - wires - condeners I'm probably going to end up replacing parts one at a time to see if the problem ceases. At the Motogiro a few weeks ago, it poured all night right up until early morning before the second day. There were lots of 305 and 160 Honda there as well as a good cross section of other brands, all pre-'68. Some fired right up, some struggled, some truly had to work on their bikes to get them running. Mine fired on first kick and then would not start. When I finally got it to run, it ran on one cylinder. Once it got hot (and I assume drove out the moisture, wherever it was hiding, it ran fine and continued to run fine all day. Good luck. Please share what you find. regards, Rob My bike warmed up great and ran home great, it just popped and sputtered at first. I had to turn the idle screws in more than usual, and use the choke. All in all it was okay, just a harder start then I'm used to, even in the dead of winter.
I'm gonna guess since it started up, it wasn't a wet wire, that moisture wouldn't burn off.
