CB77 Oil Filter Question

Post by akpasta » Thu Sep 20, 2012 11:23 am

Gave the CB77 some fresh oil this weekend and decided I'd clean the filter, since that hasn't been done since the engine was rebuilt by Davo 2500 miles or so ago. Pulled it apart and I expected to find some kind of screen in there, but there was none. Is this normal?

Not my photo, but shows what I saw inside http://www.flickr.com/photos/1962_cb77_ ... 3195726455

I guess I'm confused as to how the filter filters anything without some sort of screen. Is the idea that the sediments just stick to the side as the filter spins and spins, and the oil continues to pass through to the engine through the center rod? I suppose a screen could cause other problems, like clogging and loss of oil supply to the engine.

Thanks.

No "filter". Centrifugal force.

Thanks, I get it now. Sediments stick to the walls of the filter, and don't pass through to the cylinder.
