Okay, as the old adage goes: When I assume it makes an ass of .....ME!
I just looked, and sure enough, just like the Harbor Freight set, my old Craftsman tap and die set from the 70's has all the JIS taps and dies. I had assumed that since the 3, 4, 5 and 12mm JIS screws were hard to find that there would be no JIS help in my tap and die set. Hmmm.
Is it just me or does it seem odd to anyone else that the JIS sizes would be included in a new Harbor Freight set? And, even in my old Craftsman set!
1967 Dream RebuildChineseWho knows how long that die set has been in production. Who knows if perhaps its produced Forster markets too (SE Asia). Who knows, maybe the Chinese still use some of these thread patterns. It's a real crap set, however, for $17 it's priced about right.
UpdateBeen a few months since first post. So, tore engine down to freshen top end and replace leaking gasket and seals. Judging by how much grime was coating this motor most every seal was leaking. The intake valves were cupped, and rings were worn. To my amusement and shock the oil spinner was full of yahmabond. My guess is the previous owner had poured some in with the oils to seal it up.
But, after a few days in the shop I was rewarded with a functional Honda 305. Now I need new sprockets, chain, and tires. Then i ride. I'll gets some photos up for you guys. Can we use smug mug? I got both sprockets and the chain at http://www.ohiocycle.com/ - reasonably priced. 63 CA78
