You are correct.
I've never experienced a bad one yet. ...................lm

It only takes ONE to remain indellibly etched in the brain!

That 30 mile ride in Interstate traffic made me carry a spare!

Spark issues

Post by GG » Thu Jul 12, 2012 7:16 pm

Hello,

Spark issues can be a pain tracking down. I've seen dirty points be a big culprit, and you should also consider the wires and caps. That is a cheap replacement - just make sure to get copper core wires. Caps are cheap also. Recently we had a similar problem on a cl77 and it was the wires and caps.

I wish you luck!

I have ordered new points and condenser. Should arrive next week.

Okay , finally got it to fire and run for a few seconds on several occasions. Not positive but I think that it was a issue of not getting fuel out of the carburetor.

I replaced points and condenser and now I'm sure if I had just done last week what I did tonight that the bike would have fired up without the new points and condenser. Oh well, a good idea to replace now anyway.

After installing the new points, plugs and condenser the bike would still not fire even though I had good spark. So I put a little gas into the spark plug holes and BINGO!! I couldn't keep the bike running though. Here is the question.

I sent the tank to my radiator shop to have them line in Red Kote so I don't have a tank. I hooked up a small syringe to a fuel line into the carburetor for a fuel supply. I'm now wondering if maybe there is not enough gravity or pressure in the line to force the fuel into the cylinder.

Please look at the picture and tell me if you think that this is the problem. Is my mini fuel supply system a problem with delivering a constant fuel supply?

Thanks for chipping in.

Won't start

Re-check your points gap and timing - just to be sure you are sure. Then make sure the points are clean.

Is there gas in the carb bowl with your setup?

Brand new points and I ran some 320 grit across them and wiped with acetone and a clean piece of thin cardboard.

Opened the drain screw to make sure that fuel was in the bowl. Yes.
