Rear Motor Mount Bolts Stuck
Rear Motor Mount Bolts StuckHey, as I noted in my restoration thread, the rear motor mount bolts on my 65 Dream are stuck. I've removed the nuts, but I can't budge the bolts. Can someone verify for me that the holes in the case definitely do not (or definitely do) have threads? Also, I'm open to suggestions for freeing them.
Re: Rear Motor Mount Bolts StuckThe case doesn't have threads at any of the engine mount locations. ................lm
Well, that's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation.
So how are those bolts stuck so firmly? Rust, I suppose. I'll give 'em another good soaking with PB and leave them to soak until tomorrow. Today? Parade, car show, entertainment in the park (quality rises as the day goes on), and fireworks in my hometown. Time enough for work tomorrow.
stuck boltsyou might try using your jack or a cinder block and some cribbing under the engine to take the weight off those bolts... good luck...

I find myself wanting a forked clamp. Something with a single arm on one side of the clamp, and two side-by-side arms on the other side. The latter could straddle the bolt-head while the former pushes on the inner end of the bolt.
Or perhaps, I could use the beefy pipe clamp my wife got me a couple of years back as a gift; instead of a forked arm (or leg, or whatever the darn thing is called), I could just put an iron pipe coupler over the bolt head to give it room to come out; the clamp would apply force to the inner end of the bolt and the top of the coupler. Not sure that makes as much sense written down as it does in my head...
