Honda Producing Wrong Size O Ring for Carburetor CA77 Model

Post by quidger » Tue Jul 03, 2012 7:33 pm

I ordered a replacement O ring from Honda for the carburetor on my CA 77. Part # 16173-250-004. The parts fiche listing shows the O ring as being 24mm x 2.4. The part arrived just as ordered, correct part # and size as listed.

As soon as I pulled the O ring out of the package it was obvious to the naked eye that it was too small. I looked at my Bill Silver CD section that shows the original CA77 Parts Listing. The O ring part # for the carburetor in the original Honda list is #16173-259-004 and the size is listed as 31mm. So it looks like someone may have made a typo and inadvertently changed the three middle digits from the original 259 to 250 on the part number.

So I measured the opening for the O ring and it is exactly 31mm. I'll go talk to my Honda parts guy next week and see if they can get to the bottom of the problem.

I just want others on the Forum to be aware in case you were thinking about doing a carb re-build and ordering OEM Honda parts.

O Ring

Post by lifewithoutparole » Wed Jul 04, 2012 7:09 pm

I picked up a metric O ring assortment from harbor freight several years ago when I was working on my Suzuki X6 Hustler. It really came in handy and I also replaced the CB 175 carb O rings from that assortment. Might be the solution for you. good luck, Tim

I took the O ring back to my Honda dealer and they were very nice and refunded the price of $7.18.

I stopped at a hardware store on the way home and found a nearly perfect fit for $1.99.

Sometimes wrong is right.
