Head bolt torque caps went ping

Post by Eddie46 » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:25 pm

Started engine and oil leaking from head caps. Talked to lm and he told me about the special copper washers. Found 4 copper washers and put them on 4 outer corners and leak really slowed down. Warmed up engine and started to torque caps to 25#, they went so far (18#) approx and heard a pink and the rod is now a spring loaded tortion rod and will no longer tighten. Should I unscrew and add filler washers or what? Thanks for help.

Finally had balls enough to try again. Put regular socket wrench on nuts and they were tight. Fired up engine and no more oil leak.
