Throttle Valve Totally Stuck - CA77

Post by quidger » Mon Jun 25, 2012 4:10 pm

I'm trying to take apart the carburetor on a 1968 Dream that I bought.
The throttle valve slides up and down but I cannot get it to come out. When it comes to its highest point in the housing it stops, as if there is something preventing it from coming out.

I don't want to jerk too hard on the throttle cable. I have another Dream with the same carburetor and the throttle valve basically falls out when the cap is unscrewed.

What do you think the issue could be?

Thanks

Can you soak it in carb cleaner with a bit of ATF

Of maybe there is some build up at the top of the carb ( varnish) you should be able to feel it. Some very fine emery cloth wet it down with wd40 . I have done this on Webber carbs on my ild cars.

But I am new to the vintage hondas so these are just thoughts, not things I have tried.

The slide goes to the very top of the slide chamber with no sticking or binding and I can feel that the inside of the body is smooth. It seems like it is binding from the bottom of the Throttle valve - like something is holding it. I thought that maybe the nipple of the throttle cable came out and was hung up but that doesn't seem t be the case.

A mystery to me and driving me crazy how the valve could slide and then not come out of the carb body.

P.S. I did shoot some WD40.

Finally got the throttle valve out. Jerked on the cable extra hard and it shot out like a bullet.

Looks as though PO dropped it and it nicked the bottom pretty good. He must have forced it back into the body but it doesn't look like it scratched the inside of the slide body.

Cleaned up the slide and works slick as a whistle now.
