timing troubles????????????

Post by mrkrookie » Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:42 am

Hello All , I am having issues with the running of my engine . It fires right up , have good spark on both sides , compression good on both sides {rebuilt } I checked the timing on the bench 5 times to insure it was correct , set the points , set the valves , rebuilt the carbs , I thought I had all the bases covered before I buttoned her up..... The issue is I cant get it to fire 100% on the left side , without using full choke , no throttle response , no power at all , and a slight sputtering coming back through the left carb . IS it possible that the timing could be off ???? without tearing out the engine, how would I know? I have already checked and double checked timing according to the manual. One more item, the throttle slide on the left has been sanded smooth (down to the brass, PO not me ) could this have something to do with it? I dont know anymore , I'm at a loss. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mark
