305 CA77 starter won't shut off

Post by iogazer » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:02 pm

Gettign 305 Dream road ready after a few year sitting in garage. Starts ok after new battery, but starter stays stuck on and running, won't shut off.
What to check out before pulling starter, for 'real' fix? Non-permanent solutions-Just disengage and and kick start? Put in some type of shut off switch in hot lead to starter and pull it after it starts (worked with a '62 Corvair I had). Other?
Thanks, great site with some great posts-found after market petcock here last week

Take the handlebar switch apart and see if the wire is grounding out.
