Oil Pump Removal on CA77?Oil Pump Removal on CA77?I've a '66 CA77 and it looks like my seal/gasket for the oil pump is leaking. I've a new gasket set, and after looking at my manuals, this forum, and other online material - thought I could drain the oil, remove the six bolts on the pump and drop it right out. Well, it hanges up after about a 1/16" of drop. Question - did the new guy (me) miss something and I need another step (or five) performed to drop this out and replace the gasket? Any other oil pump removal related tips folks want to throw out would be greatfully accepted -
Didn't miss a thing, should come right out (see your parts manual - if you don't have one email me). There are two knock pins that sometimes can hang it up a bit and of course the gasket, but nothing but the bolts hold it in place. Carefully pry it out working around the edges a little at a time. Careful not to damage the mating surfaces or that would defeat the purpose of taking it out to fix the leak:)
-48 -48, thanks for the advice. I skipped the post work Friday beverage and headed straight to my garage. Man, that thing hung up on the knock pins something fierce. I do have the parts manual, but due to how stuck in there it was - I thought I'd be better off checking with the forum before going at it. It took a bit of patient persuasion, but thanks to your sage council it came out with no damage to the mating surfaces. It's now back in with new gaskets and fresh oil. I'll give it some road time tomorrow to confirm it's sealed up as it should be. Thanks again for the help! I do believe it's time for a cold one...
