I just got this bike today: couldn't resist starting to break it down. I've never rebuilt a bike, but I have done a few cars inside and out so I'm not worried. I'm sure there's a lot of good advice to be found here so I'm going to keep a posting of how I'm doing, feel free to post anything in here.

i also have the original mirrors, though i took them off to move it.

Welcome to the forum, you will find a lot of good info here.
First tip.....don't throw those old tires away like I did!
If you are going to do a full bore resto they cannot be found anywhere unless you are real lucky.
If you are going to ride it you probably want new tires, but the skinny whitewalls are nowhere to be found.
Keep the pics coming and don't be afraid to ask.

thanks brewsky, i will save those tires. they hold the air great still.

i'm going for a basically straight restoration, same color, with some redone metal plating, some chrome, some cadmium. i'll replumb and rewire the thing as well. i want it totally functional.

i noticed it doesn't have the things you guys call 'winkers'. I cant see any turn signals at all... unless they are integrated into the tail light.

i definitely want to be safe, looks be damned. i am planning to change to lower rise handlebars. i think that really suits the bike.

well. some time has passed, other projects have come and go. now i finally have the dream back together and running beautifully. started on the first kick...
the paint was all redone in gloss black BC/CC urethane. nothing was rechromed, just thoroughly cleaned. disassemble, clean, polish, paint and reassemble was really the bulk of what i did. replaced all the cables as well. rebuilt the carbs. it's been so long. reading my old posts i can see that i have too.

there are a few things i am missing that are keeping me from riding. sorry for the laundry list but i need to check things off and i've run out of resources.

-nut for rear axle
-light switch (just the little plastic part outside of the handlebar unit)
-no idea how the bulb was ever attached to the neutral blue-light-glass
-bolts/washers/nuts for the front and rear brake stays
-pressing the horn blows the main fuse

i got everything nearly sorted. except one minor issue:

the neutral switch will not light unless the bulb is grounded to the frame... but with the way the bulb is mounted (i did find the little rubber number) ... i do not see how it could ever contact the frame.

cheapo tip- a little tinfoil under the bulb in the black rubber neutral light mount made the neutral indicator lamp about twice as bright.

so close...
