Hello there...I finally got to work on the bike yesterday for a couple of hours. It was a blast! I took out the old battery and I also removed the carbs from the bike (per your instructions G-man) and cleaned them out. They actually looked very clean inside but there was some residue.

I also pulled off the air filters and they are in rough shape as well as the rubber tube to the filter. Half of the paper filter is gone on both of them and he had put pantyhose over them to help filter. I was looking at getting some on ebay as replacement but I am wary, anybody had experience with these:

I also changed out the spark plugs and put the carbs back on the bike nice and clean. Although when we went to take off the carbs in the first place we noticed none of the hoses were connected and now that I have reattached the carbs we want to make sure the hoses are going to the right place.

I was going to order Bill Silver's guide today in order to have a point of reference but I thought someone could help me out with the location of the hoses. The petcock also looks as if it only has one tube going to the engine and the other one is hanging free. Where should that second hose connect to? I did not get to the points or oil change yet but I will tomorrow. Suggestions?

Retro Bikes has new air filters at $25 for each side. The ones you link to are much cheaper but they don't look anything like the originals and don't filter very well.

Your petcock should have 2 outlets. Each outlet will need a hose on it. Connect each hose to a carb inlet of your choice.

Thanks for the suggestion on the air filters. I am going to pick up that pair from retro bikes that is a good deal. So I got some time with the bike today and I changed out the oil. The only thing left to do was to put in the battery and use Ed Moore'e tuning recipe. However when I went to removed the points cover I noticed that one of the screws was badly stripped. I included a pic here:

I am looking on advice to how to procede. Someone told me I should drill it out with care but I am thinking there may be another way. Anyone? Once I get the points set and the throttle adjusted I am going to attempt to fire it up. Any suggestions are appreciated! Also has anyone reupholstered their seat? Mine is torn but everything else is in great shape.

Do you have an impact screwdriver yet? The kind you hit with a hammer? That might get it out. Otherwise I would just drill that one out. Carefully.

I have had luck before just cutting a slot into the screwhead using a dremel with a small cutting wheel and then using a flat head screwdriver to remove it. Otherwise, drill the head off of it and easy-out it. I have a Snap On set of left handed drill bits that came with an extractor set that I like to use so I know I'm not jamming the screw in further as I drill.

ive had success notching hard to remove screws (due to stripping) with a dremel tool and using a hand held impact driver. if that does not work, its time to carefully drill the head off or use a screw extractor set.

I was thinking of using my dremel and I think that is what I am going to try. I picked up an impact driver today and I am going to give it a go this weekend. Once I get the points set I should be ready to start her up and see how she runs. Thanks for the input as usual. By the way Aid3nn your work is coming along great! I hope to be able to take it apart and restore from the ground up like you have going there at some point. It looks nice.
